Presentation Title: Thru-Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail
Presentation Description: Jeff “Blazer” Smith thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail which spans 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington. Each state brings views along the way that are as stunning as they are unique. From the deserts of Southern California to the snowy mountains of Sierra Nevada, from the volcanoes of Oregon to the North Cascades of Washington. Jeff truly found an adventure awaiting at every turn. His presentation will cover the basic logistics of the trail along with the joys and hardships of walking from Mexico to Canada.
Presenter Biography: Jeff’s first backpacking trip as an adult was a one-week long trip with the Buckeye Trail Association in 2007. Over the next several years he would backpack 200-300 miles per year. He thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2013, the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016 and the Colorado Trail in 2017.
A few other places he has backpacked are the Wind River Range in Wyoming, Adirondacks in New York and Glacier National Park in Montana. His favorite place to backpack closer to home is the Big South Fork Recreational Area in Tennessee.
Jeff also enjoys doing trail maintenance. He has done five one-week long Volunteer Vacations with the American Hiking Society. He took part in trail building and/or trail maintenance at Pine Mountain and Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, Florida Trails in Ocala National Forest, Buffalo River in Arkansas and Big South Fork in Tennessee. He has also taken part in several work parties on the Buckeye Trail.
