Presenter Biography: Emergency medicine physicians from the Wright State University Department of Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medicine Residency Program will provide lectures on wilderness medicine topics. Target audience ranges from the casual hiker to the serious outdoor adventurer. Topics include heat and cold illness, first-aid kit essentials, and injury prevention and treatment in the outdoors. Dr. Brian L. Springer is an associate professor at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Springer served in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1988-1994 and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. He attended medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas and completed his emergency medicine residency training and primary care sports medicine fellowship in Dayton. He has been full time faculty with the Wright State Emergency Medicine Residency Program since 2002, and an attending physician at the Kettering Medical Center Emergency Department since that time. He has served as Director of the WSU Division of Tactical Emergency Medicine since its inception in 2009, overseeing tactical medical training and operational medical support for multiple law enforcement agencies throughout Ohio. He serves as a subject matter expert and instructor for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy, and helped create the Critical Injury First Aid curriculum taught to all Ohio police cadets. Dr. Springer serves as a member of the Region III EMS Physicians Advisory Board, tactical medicine director for the Ohio Tactical Officers Association, medical director for the Kettering Fire Department, patrol officer with the Kettering Health Network Police and Security Department, and FBI task force officer.
