Bailey’s: Ohio’s Newest Outdoor Adventure Destination

While big named destinations are on everyone’s bucket-list, our own backyards are often filled with untapped potential. A committed grassroots local effort has taken a forested blank canvas and turned it into a plan for 88 miles of hiking and biking trails highlighted by unique partnerships, “everyday experts,” and millions of dollars in investment and revenue generated for local communities. Here’s how we painted our own picture of adventure.
Joe Crowley is an Assistant Professor of Instruction at Ohio University in the Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Studies Program where he teaches courses in Inclusive Recreation, Recreation Programming, and skills-based technical activities. He is passionate about whitewater paddling, mountain biking, and anything outside! He has been an American Canoe Association Instructor dating back to 2010 and currently helps coach the local youth mountain biking team, the Athens County Cougarbats.
