Exploring Patagonia on the O and Huemul Circuits

Megan Reardon

^

In 2024, Megan hiked over 100 miles on the O Trek in Torres Del Paine and the Huemul Circuit in Argentina. Learn more about the landscape and ecosystem of Patagonia’s peaks and glaciers as she shares the story and hear practical tips about planning Patagonian hiking trips suitable for a range of experience and budget levels, from guided hut to hut trips on the W to remote wilderness backpacking in Los Glaciares National Park.

(Note for organizers — feel free to suggest edits as needed to this or the bio! I thought this would be an interesting and accessible topic for both armchair travelers and different types of folks interested in planning a trip, as hiking in Torres Del Paine can range from a guided, easier trip on the W to the more rugged O that I hiked, and the Huemul is a more wild and remote experience for the advanced. I would share a lot of photos and general info as I narrated my trip, and specific tips about planning a trip.

I presented at the 2024 Summit about Nepal and really enjoyed it! I hope the audience did as well. 🙂 I was right before the Saturday night keynote so a lot of folks hustled out quickly to get seats. If this topic overlaps with other sessions too much, I could present about other treks I’ve done. Let me know!)

Bio

Megan is an avid traveler and long distance hiker who has completed trails on six continents. Lowlights include breaking her glasses in Norway and getting stuck in thigh-deep mud in New Zealand. You’ve probably passed her on a trail taking photos of Ohio wildflowers. Megan works in education as a senior program manager for Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland. She presented at the 2024 Adventure Summit about Nepal’s Gokyo Lakes Circuit.
