Preparing Dehydrated Meals for Your Next Adventure

Stacy Boone

^

All too often, food for an adventure is an afterthought. There are those who believe that outdoor recreation, and its hunger pangs at the end of the day, lessens the mouth’s ability to savor flavor. It isn’t true. Food is energy. Reduced energy is a potential safety risk, as well as a lessening the enjoyment factor of an exciting outdoor exploration.

There is no reason to eat tasteless food in the backcountry. In this workshop we will discuss how easy it can be to package and portion mini feasts to load into a food sack and carry for the next adventure. Expect us to share a few notes on how to think about good nutrition, easy ways to package food at home, and where to purchase ingredients.

Stacy began backpacking in 1998 with a thru-hike of the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail. Known as Simply Seeking in the hiking community, she didn’t stop at one thru-hike but continued and completed the Triple Crown in 2006. With over 20,000-miles on her hiking boots, and 20 years of outdoor experience as a guide, Stacy understands the importance of eating well while recreating.
