Ronald Schilb, an avid adventurer, has conquered 49 of the 50 high points across states without the aid of a guide. He meticulously utilized guidebooks and leveraged information from the High Pointer’s Club, leaving only Hawaii’s high point unvisited—an aspiration he hopes to fulfill in the near future.
His journey commenced at age 8 when he scaled Clingman’s Dome in Tennessee alongside his family back in 1959. Recreating this memorable experience on the hiking trail from New Found Gap became a recurring pursuit for Ronald. In his program, he intends to delve into various aspects, including equipment conditioning, considerations for children, drafting a comprehensive plan, referencing essential resources, and showcasing captivating photos from his numerous trips. Remarkably, Ronald has navigated every high point without the guidance of a professional, including the formidable Mt. McKinley in Alaska. His Alaskan expedition, where he served as the expedition leader, was a comprehensive process that he’s prepared to detail in a separate program.
Ronald Schilb’s life story is etched with a vibrant tapestry of climbing experiences that span various terrains across the United States. His passion for the vertical world led him through a myriad of ascents, from the wintry challenges of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire to the rugged expanses of Longs Peak and the Rockies’ Mt. Ypsilon & Chiquita in Colorado. With an adeptness honed through years of experience, Ronald traversed ice routes like Pinnacle Gully in Mt. Washington, NH, and the formidable Owen-Spalding in Grand Teton, WY. His repertoire of notable rock climbs encompassed breathtaking terrains, scaling the Grand Teton N. face in Wyoming, exploring Halletts Peak NF in Colorado, and conquering the E. Face of Pingora in the Wind River Range, WY, among other impressive feats.
Ronald’s commitment to the climbing community was evident through his active involvement in associations like the American Alpine Club and his past presidency of the Ohio Climbers’ Association. He now generously shares his expertise as a climbing instructor for the Boy Scouts of America, New World Expeditions, and Urban Krag. |
